Termite Frass 1-17-22

Valley Springs Ca.  January 2022. Photos by Ian Campbell.

Termite frass collected from two different areas of a house.

The pellet photos at top, above the circled “2” are from a section of water-saturated subfloor. The galleries were pack with pellets.

The pellet photos below the circled “2” are of pellets found in a closet. Dry conditions: pellets dry, loose, in a pile on the closet floor under the exit hole, as shown in photos.

Dr. Andrew Sutherland points out that it can difficult to distinguish the pellets of dampwood and drywood termites. Drywood termite pellets, when exposed to moisture, can look very similar to drywood pellets. See this post by Dr. Sutherland.
